Our Story

In classrooms across the nation, LBGTQ+ youth face extraordinary challenges that threaten not only their ability to thrive but their safety. For more than three decades, GLSEN has been the nation's leading advocate for LGBTQ+ youth in education ? a beacon of hope and a catalyst for systemic change. With a mission to create safe schools, GLSEN centers the experiences of youth marginalized by sexuality, race, gender identity/expression, and/or ability in its work to create educational environments where everyone can thrive.

Today, our mission is more urgent than ever. The challenges facing LGBTQ+ students are profound and growing. A resurgence of stigma and discrimination threatens their ability to learn in environments where they are safe, respected, and valued

GLSEN is Prevention: We don't just react to harm?we prevent it. GLSEN works to stop discrimination before it starts, building school environments that respect and celebrate diversity. By confronting harmful norms and fostering inclusive cultures, we ensure students thrive without fear.

GLSEN is Systemic Transformation: Our work extends beyond individual schools to influence national systems. From classrooms to Congress, GLSEN shifts institutional power to advance queer, racial, gender, and disability justice in education.

GLSEN is Belonging: Every student deserves to learn in an environment where they feel safe, supported, and valued. GLSEN creates these spaces, ensuring that young people know they belong.

Your support will ensure that every student, regardless of their identity, can learn and thrive in a world that sees and celebrates their full humanity. Together, we can build a future where all students belong.
